A Fighter’s Heart Blog Story

This would take place right before Dom’s charity match with Zachery.

“Dom, we have thirty minutes to get out the door and to the doctor’s office,” Riley called out as he grabbed Emilia to take her to the truck.

“Adba da bebe.” Emilia smiled at Riley.

“I’m here.”

Riley sucked in a sharp breath at the sound of Dom’s voice directly behind him.

“Dang it, Dominic,” Riley growled turning to glare at Dom. “How many times do I need to tell you not to sneak up on me?”

“And how many time do I need to tell you, you shouldn’t say my full name with ill intent?” Dom said with a grin.

“Oh bite me.”

“Dada, dada,” Emilia chanted as she reached for Dom.

“Hey, beautiful girl. You ready to go to the big bad doctor?” Dom asked as he bounced Emilia in the air causing her to laugh in joy.

“Oh, hush. Going to the doctor is not that bad.”

“What if she needs to get s-h-o-t?” Dom whispered.

“Dom, she can’t spell. You can say the word.” Riley laughed.

“Still, you’re going to be the one to hold her if she does have to get shots.” Dom shuddered as he said the last word.

“You aren’t seriously afraid of needles? You get punched in the face for a living.”

“There is a big difference between taking a hit to the body, and getting stabbed with a pointy object,” Dom declared.

“Wow. Okay, you big baby let’s go.” Riley smiled to himself at the glare Dom threw him before turning to walk out to his truck.

Riley got into the passenger seat as Dom put Emilia into her car seat before getting in the driver seat.

“Are the guys coming over this weekend?” Riley asked Dom when he passed through the gate.

“I think so, but we both know Xavier and Zach will pop up at any given moment.”

Riley chuckled because Dom was right. They sat in silence, apart from when Riley hummed along to the songs that came on the radio. Soon they were pulling into the parking lot of the doctor’s office.

Riley took Emilia into the waiting room while Dom checked her in. Riley sighed in relief when there was only another man and woman sitting there. He hoped that meant they wouldn’t have a long wait to get in to see the doctor. Riley took Emilia from her stroller and was bouncing her on his knee when a deep voice spoke behind him.

“Dom?”

Riley looked up to find his lover walking toward them. The smile on his face slipping.

***

Dom groaned when he spotted Roy sitting behind Riley. With how happy he was with Riley, and before then, Dom had forgotten to give his old lover a call to let him know everything had worked out for him.

Dom’s eyes moved from Roy to Riley. Riley had raised an eyebrow at the stunned look; Dom was sure he was sporting. Dom looked back at Roy who had gotten close to them.

“So what brings you here sexy?” Roy asked with a hint of lust in his voice.

Dom held in another groan as he caught the glare Riley shot his way. “I brought my daughter in for a checkup.”

“Nice,” Roy stated with a nod of his head. “I see you got everything settled. I’m a little hurt; I thought I would have gotten a phone call by now.”

“Oh really?” Riley questioned.

Roy must not have heard him or decided to ignore him because he continued to talk. “Where is she?”

“Yes, Dominic, where is she?” Riley growled.

Oh, fucking hell.

“Oh.” Roy startled, looking down at Riley before his eyes moved to Emilia.

“She’s cute. I hadn’t gotten a good look at her that night she was dropped off.”

“Thanks.” Dom cleared his throat. “This is my partner Riley.”

“Oh … oh.”

“I would say it’s a pleasure, but I’m on the fence about that,” Riley greeted with a fake smile.

Roy looked shocked for a moment before he spoke. “I don’t poach on anybody’s man. A phone call would have been great, but I get it,” Roy stated before looking back at Dom. “It was great seeing you. I’m glad you have somebody.”

“Thanks, Roy.”

Riley huffed as the other man moved back to his seat. Dom sat next to Riley, who had turned to look the other way. “Come on Ry, that was in the past.”

Riley turned back to glare at Dom. “I know that, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

Dom understood that. He hadn’t like Gabriel, and that was only one past lover. Dom knew he wouldn’t like anybody that had been intimate with his partner.

“How about I make it up to you tonight?”

Before Riley could answer a nurse called out, “Emilia Bennett?”

“I’ll hold you to that,” Riley whispered as he walked pass Dom, pushing Emilia’s stroller.

With a lecherous grin, Dom followed Riley. He knew of the perfect way for his lover to know that he was the only one for him.

Dominic “The Animal” Bennett
Dom is currently the MMA’s World Heavyweight Champion and is on top of the world. His world is rocked when an ex comes into the picture with a surprise that will change his life forever.
As Dom adjusts to being a fighter and father, he will learn what is important in his life when the chips start to stack against him.

Riley Hall
Riley loved his job at Manny Services until one of his best friends took a client from him behind his back. And to top everything off, his year-long boyfriend decided to call it quits.
Riley confused, and angry decided he will start new, and find his forever family. Riley hits the jackpot when he answers an ad as a live-in nanny for a new father.
Now all he needs to do is stop fantasizing about the father, and he could have his happily ever after.

“Dom, I brought the nanny applications for you to look over today.”
“How long has it been since you posted the ad?” Dom vaguely remembered Holly saying something about needing to find a nanny for Emilia but wasn’t sure exactly when she’d decided to move forward.
“I knew you weren’t paying attention! Figures,” she sighed, shaking her head. “You’re helpless without me.”
“Okay, okay.” He figured he needed to say something before she decided he wasn’t listening again.
“Because I’m awesome, I’ve narrowed it down to four people. They’re stopping by for interviews today. You’re welcome.”
“Wait… what? Interviews?” Dom looked up from cleaning Emilia’s face. “I don’t even know what kind of questions I’m supposed to ask. Can’t we do it tomorrow?”
“No. Because I know you’ll keep putting it off until it’s too late. Need I remind you that you’re scheduled to start training for your next fight in less than two weeks?”
Damn it, she was right. Dom’s training schedule was grueling the closer he got to each match. “Okay, okay, but do I have to do it? Can’t you talk to them for me?” he pleaded, trying to sound as pathetic as possible so Holly would take pity on him.
“No, I can’t do it for you. You need to decide who’ll be taking care of Emilia yourself, especially since they’ll be living with you.”
“What the hell do you mean, living with me?”
“Language, Dom,” Holly chastised. “We both know how crazy your schedule gets. You’ll need someone who’s available twenty-four seven.”
“Can’t we hire someone to be on call?” Dom didn’t feel comfortable having someone he didn’t know living in his home. His feelings contradicted leaving the same person to watch Emilia while he was gone, which caused him to cave with Holly’s suggestion of a live in nanny. “Alright, alright. How long do I have until the first person arrives and do you have their resumes or something, so I don’t look like a complete idiot when I answer the door?”
“The first appointment is in thirty minutes. I’ll keep an eye on Emelia while you look these over.”
Dom glared at Holly before taking the resumes and nondisclosure forms she handed him. He knew she left it to the last minute on purpose.
“Don’t look at me like that. Honestly, how you can be a MMA bad boy but are afraid to talk to people is beyond me.”

3 x 3 WiP and Tag, You’re It

I’ve made some new author friends, and Addison Albright, my new friend, has tagged me in the 3 x 3 WIP tag-around. I’ve been seeing a version floating around Facebook where just the first line of each of the first three chapters is shared, but this version calls for the first three lines of the first three chapters, so that’s what you’re getting.

So I don’t know how many authors friends I need to tag, but I will tag Carly Rose, Ashley John, and Dean Frech.

This is from my current wip, A Fighter’s Heart, who is with the lovely Carly, looking for a release really, really soon.

Chapter One:

Dominic “The Animal” Bennett stumbled back, shaking his head after taking an elbow to the face from his opponent. He needed to get his head in the game if he wanted to beat Jeffrey and still keep his MMA Heavyweight title. After they traded a few kicks, punches, and elbows, the bell finally rang ending the five minute second round.

Chapter Two:

Dom had forgotten that Summer had text him earlier letting him know that they needed to talk.

“Is this a bad time?” Summer asked adjusting the baby on her hip as she began to fuss.

“No, come in.” Dom moved out of the way and tried to process when Summer had, had a kid.

Chapter Three:

Riley Hall looked at his watch for the fifth time in the past twenty minutes. Gabriel, his boyfriend of one year, was late for their dinner date again. Riley tried to hold in his sigh as he realized only two minutes had passed.

“Sir, would you like some more wine?”

Teaser Tuesday: Loving His Mercenary Unedited

Elliot Phillips groaned while squeezing his eyes shut tighter before opening them. He looked up at the dingy ceiling from his spot on the floor. It felt like there was a marching band in his head as his brain pulsed. Elliot blinked a few times trying to figure out why he was laying on the floor with a pressure on his chest that felt like someone was laying on him.

Closing his eyes again, Elliot thought back to the last thing he remembered. He and Laci were at the park for her sixth birthday party and he was on the phone with Christian wondering where he and Rick were. Laci had kept asking him if they could cut the cake. Elliot then remembered hearing Laci scream when he looked at her, Hector had been holding a gun to her head. He also remembered trying to stall until Christian and Rick made it to them. When he saw Kilian step out of the car, he heard police sirens, before Killian apologized, then there had been a blinding pain before everything went black.

Elliot’s eyes snapped open again, Laci.

“Daddy are you awake? I’m scared.”

Elliot breathed a sigh of relief when he realized it was Laci’s head laying on his chest.

“Yes, pumpkin I’m awake.”

Elliot groaned when he sat up after Laci lifted her head. He slowly turned his head checking their surroundings. They seemed to be in a basement, all the walls were made of concrete bricks. A stairwell was directly in front of them. Besides the two of them, there was nothing else in down there.

“Has anybody been down here since we got here?” Elliot asked turning to look back at Laci.

“Only two people. The bad guy who held the gun at my head and the man who got out of the car.” Laci answered. Daddy will Christian and Rick be coming to get us soon?”

“I don’t know sweetie.” Elliot answered, he believed they would be coming to get them, but if Killian hadn’t gone to the dark side, Elliot could get his help.

“Sweetie, I want you to over to the corner and close your eyes,” Elliot insisted when he heard footsteps above them.

“But…”

“No buts Laci, I need you to keep being strong for daddy. Go into the corner and don’t open your eyes until you feel it’s safe,” Elliot urged her.

He let out a sigh of relief when she stood and started to move.

“But how will I know?”

Elliot heard the fear in her voice, but he was helpless to do anything about it. “You’ll know baby.”

Teaser Thursday: Mated

“Thank you for coming on such short notice,” Noah greeted his father and the Elders when they arrived.

“Not a problem. We were already planning to stop by to make sure everything is going as planned with Rachel,” Zeke answered for the group.

Noah followed his guests into the living room, taking a seat next to Mitchell on the sofa. Rachel had joined them as well, and once everyone was seated he prepared himself for all hell to break loose.

“I wanted everyone to meet as soon as possible to announce that I won’t be mating Rachel as originally planned. Rachel, you are a lovely woman and my decision doesn’t reflect negatively on you in any way,” Noah turned towards her with an apologetic smile.

“You agreed to this Noah, you can’t back out now,” Zeke growled.

“Watch it old man. I’m still Alpha of this pack,” Noah growled harshly, and Zeke had the decency to look sheepish. “I will not be mating Rachel because last night I claimed my true mate, her brother Mitchell.”

The Elders all began shouting at once. Their horrified and bigoted comments enough to tempt Noah to violence if they didn’t shut the hell up soon. To his credit, Noah’s father, hadn’t said anything yet, and Rachel sat in stunned silence while Mitchell’s steadying presence offered support.

“Enough,” Noah snapped. “I will address your concerns one at a time.”

“You can’t possible mate him, it’s unheard of.” Unsurprisingly, Zeke was the first to speak.

“It may be unheard of but let me assure you that it is very possible because we are already mated. Has your eyesight gone bad? You can clearly see my mating mark on Mitchell’s skin.”

“What about uniting the packs? If you aren’t going to mate Rachel it’s obvious you don’t have the best interest of the pack in mind.”

“That won’t be a problem, the packs can still unite. It must have escaped your notice that Mitchell and Rachel are siblings. I’m not answering any more question, we are going around in circles. Mitchell is my mate. End of story.” Noah was having a hard time controlling his wolf. It wanted to tear the Elders to shreds for doubting his mate.

“We will see how long you remain Alpha,” Zeke hissed.

The hairs on the back of Noah’s neck stood up. “Was that a threat, Elder? Let me assure you that I am fully capable of defending my status as Alpha and protecting my mate.” The power coming off Noah crackled in the air, demanding they turn their heads and submit to him. “I take care of my pack. I put their needs above my own. I was even willing to attempt to mate a female for them. You are the ones who are betraying the pack. Alphas are always stronger with their fated mates at their side. You will not tell me that I can’t mate Mitchell Goddamn it. He is my mate.” Noah felt his skin crawl as his wolf tried to come forward to eliminate the threat to his mate.

“Let’s take five minutes to cool off before something happens we’ll all regret,” Mitchell said as he stood and began to pull Noah towards the kitchen. His mate was seconds away from shifting. Before the kitchen door had time to swing close, Mitchell spun around and trapped Noah with an all-consuming kiss; the kind that makes you think of nothing else. After a couple of minutes, Mitchell pulled his mouth away. One minute Noah was about to kill someone and the next all he wanted was to find a bedroom and take his mate.

“Better?” Mitchell asked, his voice husky from their kiss.

“Hell yeah, let’s do that again.” Mitchell chuckled and turned to lead Noah back into the living room. “That’s not fair. First you get me all hot and bothered and then you make me go back to a room where I want to strangle half the occupants.”

“Think of it this way. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go to bed.”

Noah followed Mitchell back into the living room. As far as he was concerned, this meeting was already over. The only question left to answer was if there would be bloodshed or not.

“I have a suggestion,” Zeke announced as soon as they were seated again.

Noah raised an eyebrow. He didn’t like the tone of Zeke’s voice, the man up to something. “I’m listening.”

“The obvious solution is to hold an Alpha challenge.”

“What!” Mitchell’s efforts to calm Noah shattered.

“Noah, just hear them out,” Mitchell whispered forcefully into his ear. Since Noah wanted heads to roll, he would have to be the one to keep the peace.

“We will select three wolves who we feel are better suited to the position of Alpha then you are to challenge them in the ring. Whoever wins will then fight your brothers Nathan and Nicholas. If the contender beats all three of you, then your family will no longer be the Alpha family, and he will be Alpha,” Zeke continued.

Noah wanted to gut the pompous ass. He watched as his father’s body stiffened and then relaxed. His father knew none of the challengers would defeat Noah. There was no reason to worry about his younger sons.

“All right. Choose who you want on these conditions. Once I beat the wolves you choose you will leave us the hell alone. From this point forward, anyone who doesn’t keep their mouths shut about my leadership, my mate, or any other same sex matings that occur, will have to find another fucking pack.” Noah would rather gut them then make a deal, but Mitchell obviously wanted to do things the old-fashioned way so no one would ever challenge them again.

“Deal.”

Once they had selected a date for the Alpha challenge, the Elders left. Noah, Mitchell, Rachel and his dad were the only ones who remained. Rachel and his dad had been quiet throughout the entire meeting and Noah turned to Rachel now. “I am sorry things had to work out this way. I had intended to follow through with my promise to mating with you, and your brother had decided to leave, but I couldn’t let him go.”

“You have nothing to apologize for. I understand completely.”

Rachel looked disappointed but not terribly hurt and Noah was relieved. It wasn’t her fault and he didn’t want to cause her any pain. “You can stay as long as you like.”

“Thank you, I’m very happy for the two of you and will take you up on that offer. Unless you had something else to discuss, it’s been an eventful morning and I’d like to go to my bedroom and rest for a while.”

“No, nothing else, thank goodness.”

Rachel smiled at them pleasantly before headed to her room. Now the only person left to deal with was his father.

“Dad—”

“I’m proud of you son. You stood up for your mate and what you believed in.”

“You’re not upset?”

“No, son. I want you to be happy, and it’s obvious that this young man does that for you.” To say Noah was stunned would be an understatement. He’d thought that his father agreed with the Elders’ plan to arrange his mating. “Yes he does Dad, more than you know. Thank you for understanding.” Noah was exhausted, and it wasn’t even ten in the morning.

Teaser Tuesday: Devil Assailants 18+ (Unedited)

“Oh… fuck… Devil.”

Charles “Devil” Gray pounded into the man laying beneath him. Sweat dripped down his face as he kept up the steady pace. Grabbing Kevin’s legs, Devil rested them on the crook of his elbows, pulling him closer.

“Oh fuck, right there.”

Devil knew with this new angel, he rub against Kevin’s prostate on every inward and outward stroke. Panting, he worked his cock in and out of the warm tight opening, his orgasm close. Pulling out, Devil turned Kevin onto his stomach. “Get on all fours.” He growled, waiting for him to comply before sliding back in. Grabbing Kevin’s hips, Devil picked up where he left off.

“Fuck… fuck… fuck.”

“Stroke your cock and cum for me.”

Sliding his hand between his legs, Kevin did as instructed. Devil felt the first signs of his orgasm approaching and if Kevin didn’t get off when Devil did, he would have to do something to let him come to completion. That wasn’t Devil’s thing. His lover’s new that they needed to cum when he did. When he felt Kevin’s ass tightening around his covered cock, he knew he was about to come. He grunted as his orgasm tore threw him and heard his lover scream as he came beneath him. Breathing heavily, Devil waited until he came down from his orgasmic bliss before pulling out. Hand at the base of his cock to keep the condom on.

“That was amazing.” Kevin breathed as he turned onto his back.

It had been okay, but Devil wasn’t going to pop the dude’s bubble. “I got a meeting that I need to get to. When I get back you need to be gone.”

Kevin only glared, he knew the score, knew it would be in his best interest if he was gone by the time Devil got back. He didn’t like people in his personal space for long, they tended to get attached, waiting around for him. That was a no go. Walking to the bathroom, he disposed of the condom before wiping himself down. Redressing, Devil walked out of his room and went to the conference room, Kevin already forgotten. Going to the head of the table, he looked at the men already sitting there. Devil pounded his gavel on the table to get the men’s attention.

“There’s a shipment coming in two days. Joker, I want you to pick four men to take with you. One of them needs to be a newbie.” Devil stated before looking at his road captain.

“Sure thing Devil.”

“Also, someone needs to go to the club to handle a dispute between three members of the staff.”

“I’ll get someone on that.” Sarge stated from the left side of him.

“Are we set for the cookout in three days?”

“My old lady has everything organized. No problems there.” Slim stated.

Devil nodded before continuing, “We know it’s for the kids before they go back to school. So let’s try to keep all the sordid shit for after the kids leave.” He waited until he got nods from his men before speaking again. “Dues are due in two weeks, anybody who can’t pay needs to let me know quickly. Anything else?”

Devil looked around the table as everyone shook their heads no. “Let’s give them hell.” He stated before pounding the gavel. “If anybody needs me, I’ll be in the back.”

He didn’t wait for a reply before heading out the door. Walking to his bedroom, Devil frowned before closing the door. “I thought I said you needed to be gone by the time my meeting was over.”

“Come on Devil we both know that’s not what you want.” Kevin bounded from the bed moving closer to him.

Devil’s hand quick as lightening reached out and wrapped around his neck. Slamming Kevin against the wall, Devil crowded into his body. “Don’t fucking tell me what I want. The next time I tell your ass to be gone, your ass better had fucking disappeared.” Devil sealed it with a harsh kiss before stepping away. “When I want to fuck your tight ass again, I’ll come look for you. Now get the fuck out of my sight.”

“Fuck you Devil.” Kevin panted trying to catch his breath.

“If you’re fucking lucky.”

Devil turned his back and walked towards the bathroom. He placed his cut on the back of the chair outside the door. Shedding his clothes, Devil turned on the shower before getting in. When the fuck are you going to settle down and stop fucking these groupies? Devil snorted at his thought. He needed to find someone to settle down with, but he had a feeling even if he did that wouldn’t stop the groupies he fucked from trying to use his name and get in his good graces. Whoever got the title of being his would have to deal with this shit and though people said he was a cold hearted bastard, Devil couldn’t find it in himself to put anybody through that. He just needed to choose his conquest more thoroughly from here on out. The man he needed would be able to go tit for tat with him, and take his bullshit, while calling him on it, Devil would keep that man. Not only that but the man would need to have an iron will because of the shit he had to deal with, sometimes on a daily bases. So far all he found for his troubles were men trying to use him for his status as President of the Devil Assailants. As soon as he found that man, Devil would put his property cut on him in a heartbeat.

Cleaning his body, Devil got out of the shower and went to his bedroom. His eyes zeroed in on his property cut hanging on the wall. Yeah, it seemed like it would be hanging there a while yet. Devil shook his head before dressing quickly and walking to his office. Taking a seat behind his desk, he pulled up the club’s books on the computer, when someone knocked on the door.

“Who the fuck is it?” Devil growled at the door, his moment of wishful thinking long gone.

“It’s me.” Devil’s vise president stated through the door before opening it. “I got the list of contractors you needed for the new houses you wanted to build on the property.”

Devil took the list from Brick before looking over the five names on the list. “And each company has worked on big projects before?” Devil asked placing the list in front of him, not one company standing out to him.

“All except for King’s Construction.”

“Then why the fuck did you put them on the list?” Devil asked raising his eyebrow.

“Because the shit they have done are fucking top notch. So I figured we scoop them up if you like what they have going before somebody else does.” Brick argued, crossing his arms across his chest.

“I swear to God, if it was anybody else, I would have been ripped their head off.”

“You know I’m right, so quit your fucking belly aching. I already had Slim call them all, you have appointments with the first three tomorrow and the last two, the day after that.”

“Got it.” Devil answered before looking back at the list ending their conversation. They needed to find the best company to build the new house for new club members or if someone needed a place to crash, for a night or to land back on their feet. They also needed to do it all within a timely matter. Devil didn’t see how King’s Construction fell into that category if they haven’t worked on big projects before. Maybe Brick is right, the club should give them a shot. Devil shook his head, before placing the list to the side, he’ll worry about that tomorrow.

Devil powered on his computer, getting down to club business.

Simple Saturday: Update

Ok so it’s me again. I know, I am rather iffy when it comes to blog posts, but I have sworn to myself to change that. I have a reminder on my phone to tell me to make the blog post for the next day. I know that’s really sad, but I find it to be helpful these past two days.

What the heck am I up to? If you check the blog and look in the corner where the little progress bars are, you know that A Fighter’s Heart is steady climbing up there. Although I haven’t updated it recently. At the time of this post, AFH is at 45242 words. I have also joined a critiquing group with some wonderful people and the ones working on AFH have given me some invaluable feedback on the story. I have a feeling this will be my best book yet. So if all goes to plan, and sweet baby Jesus, I hope that they do, I should have it published by mid-July or sooner, but let’s cross our fingers for mid-July though.

What comes after that, Loving His Mercenary will be released in the summer time as well. Then comes the next story in the Red Moon Pack series. Hopefully by then I will know if I want to write it like Mated, or if they will be two stand-alones.

I may have not been active with the blog, but I swear I have been writing.

Until next time.
