Teaser Tuesday: Fated Mate

“Sure mom, I’ll see what I can do about that,” Ethan stated before walking out the front door of his parents’ house. The crisp autumn air felt like a cool breeze against his body. Taking a deep, calming breath, he walked to his best friend Isaiah’s house.

It was always the same thing when it came to his mother. “When are you going to mate? I want grandcubs before I’m too old to play with them.” Ethan chuckled to himself. They were wolf shifters and lived very long lives. His mother was seventy, but looked and acted as if she was in her early thirties. This past week she had been throwing it on pretty thick for him to find a mate. He hadn’t found the right woman, and the urge to mate wasn’t there. He was happy with his bachelor wolf status.

Lost in his thoughts, he made it to Isaiah’s home without paying attention to where he was going. That showed how many times he’s made the trek. He had stopped to visit his parents before meeting up with Isaiah and going to their Alpha’s home. That was a visit he should have avoided. Knocking on the door, he heard Isaiah yell ‘come in’. Opening the door, Ethan stopped dead in his tracks. The most mouthwatering smell of delicious apple pie, fresh out of the oven, scented the air. He was always the first person in line to get a slice when his mother baked his favorite pie. What he couldn’t figure out was why Isaiah was baking. Isaiah rarely baked, and when he did, he wasn’t a big fan of pies.

“Why are you baking?” Ethan asked Isaiah once he was able to move into the living room.

“I’m not. You know I hate to bake.” Isaiah walked toward the entrance of the living room, where Ethan was standing, his eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.

The irresistible smell became stronger with each step Isaiah took in his direction. Ethan’s body went rigid with arousal. He held himself back from pulling Isaiah into his arms to kiss the hell out of him. His body’s reaction to the intoxicating scent told Ethan everything he needed to know. Shit, this couldn’t be real.

“Shit.” Isaiah echoed Ethan’s thought.

They were mates. Why now? They’d grown up together, were practically inseparable, and Ethan had never reacted this way toward his best friend before. Maybe it was because his mother had started hounding him to mate that made the Fates decide to show them who was boss.

“This can’t be happening.” Ethan stated. Their mating wouldn’t go over well with the pack. The elders were set in their ways and rebuffed anything new or different. They wouldn’t accept their unconventional mating. If he hadn’t known Isaiah since childhood, Ethan would have missed the hurt that flashed in the other man’s eyes before he quickly schooled his features.

“The pack would shit bricks, or worse, try to kick us out.” Isaiah stated, hitting the mark dead on.

“So how are we going to keep from claiming each other? My wolf is riding me hard to lay claim to you right now.”

“We have to fight it. That’s all we can really do. When the urge hits us, we’ll just have to discreetly find someone else.” Isaiah groaned, his eyes scrunching up in misery. “Ugh, my wolf is clawing at me for even saying that out loud.”

Ethan nodded, “I’m going to go.” A heavy lead weight settled in the pit of his stomach as he walked to the door. They couldn’t claim each other without jeopardizing their place in the pack. He laughed at their predicament. Fate sure has a funny sense of humor sometimes.

I’m back!

Ok, so some people may have noticed that I have been MIA. I will start by saying that RL has been taking its toll on me. I’m talking about when you wake up and you are like today is going to be a good  day, I’m going to get this done, or today is the day it’s going to be perfect. I haven’t had a good day in a long time. It’s really sad. It got to the point where I literally didn’t have the energy to do anything. Worry and stress is a very bad combination.

Now it’s back to the regularly scheduled program. I’m done feeling sorry for myself, so I’ve been writing. What have I been writing you ask? Well Fated Mate and Destined Mate are finished, they are with my editor right now and I should have Fated Mate back really soon. Like I said before there will be major changes in those two books, but the story is somewhat the same. I am looking to release that one on August 10-20th. Don’t quote me on that, I have learned all to clearly how plans can change. I have finished the revisions for Conquered Mate, not too many changes, just need to type that up. I know I’m just going to add some scenes to Cherished Mate.

Also the title for Jack (Jake), I can’t remember his name and that is really bad, but Noah’s father and Shane’s story will be Unexpected Mate and I doubt it will be more than 10k words. Their book will basically be the set up for Jeremy’s story, which got the title Beloved Mate.

I am currently working on A Fighter’s Heart and I think it might be my first novel length book. Yay. After that I am going to hopefully start the next and final book in the Mercenary in Love series, Loving His Mercenary. Killian and Elliot’s story.

All I ask is to have some patience with me, I’m working on getting back on track. There are good things to come.

Thanks for all your support and love, until next time.

Fated Mate Revision Unedited

Stepping into the night air, Ethan needed to go speak with Isaiah. He was still upset that Isaiah stood him up tonight, but he felt as though his feelings shouldn’t matter after the bomb he was about to drop on him. Maybe it was a good thing he hadn’t come over. One of them would have given in to their need to mate. He had a feeling it would have been him.

Taking deep breaths of the night air, Ethan set off on the same path he’d walked a thousand times to Isaiah’s place. After the conversation he just had with his mother he felt like shit, but now his stomach twisted in knots. He was going to tell Isaiah that he was going to be looking for a female mate. He didn’t know if he should tell him that his mother was dying, that her last wish was for him have kids. Placing his hands in his pockets, he tried to picture how Isaiah would take the news. All he could picture was the hurt he knew would be coming from Isaiah.

He slowed down when he got to the door. He squared his shoulders, before walking up the two steps to knock on the door. He opened the door when he heard “come in”, Isaiah walking past him to go into the kitchen.

“Hey man, what’s up?” Isaiah greeted him on his way past.

Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. That was the perfect opening for him to ask Isaiah why he never came over. He didn’t voice his question because it didn’t matter now. He opened his eyes before taking a step into the kitchen, but paused in the doorway, leaving some distance between them. Isaiah pulled a beer out of the fridge, then turned to look at him. The knots in his stomach grew tighter when he gazed at Isaiah’s rugged male face. His jawline was hard and sported a goatee with a matching mustache above his lips. His lips, they looked soft, and very kissable with his bottom lip fuller than the top. Ethan’s eyes traveled up Isaiah’s straight nose to his eyes, a light blue framed by long lashes that any female would envy. Isaiah straightened his six foot four muscular body, which caused his fitted black tee shirt to stretch across his brawny shoulders.

“Why are you just standing there?” Isaiah asked interrupting his appraisal before taking a seat.

“My mother just told me that she only has five more years to live.” He didn’t know why he started with that no that was a lie, he wanted Isaiah to know that there was a reason behind his words when he told him.

“Awe, man I’m sorry. How does she know that for sure?” Ethan watched as the muscles in Isaiah’s leg jumped, as if he was fighting with himself not to get up and comfort him.

“The pack seer told her this ten years ago.” Isaiah sat there for a minute as Ethan’s words sank in.

“She’s just now telling?”

“Yes.” He could see the wheels turning in Isaiah’s eyes as he tried to work out why his mother would be telling him now.

“Why did she tell you now Ethan?” Isaiah asked with a slight growl in his voice.

“She wants me to find a mate and give her grandcubs before she passes.” Ethan took a deep breath before looking Isaiah straight in the eye. “I’m going to give her that to her.”

A low growl met his words. Isaiah’s eyes held anger and pain, when he stood, his body was ridged. “What? I didn’t hear you right. It sounded like you said you’re going to take another mate.”

“Yes, that’s what I said. It’s for my mother.” Isaiah’s eyes narrowed. He never sought out to hurt him like this, but he didn’t see any other way.

“Is that so?” Isaiah asked, pacing the kitchen. “So that’s it? We’re not even going to discuss this? Do you have any fucking idea what that’s going to do to me?”

He had an idea, but figured it was a rhetorical question, so he didn’t bother answering. What wolf wanted to see its mate with another person? He didn’t know what to do, but they couldn’t claim each other.

For the first time in his life, he couldn’t look Isaiah in the eye. “I don’t know of any other way to do this. She’s my mother, and she’s going to be dying soon. What else am I supposed to do?”

“Tell her you already have a fucking mate.” Pain and heart ache engulfed him as he heard Isaiah’s voice crack with raw emotion. Ethan didn’t have to look at him to know Isaiah’s gorgeous eyes were shining brightly with suppressed tears.

“I couldn’t do that to her. I’m sorry Sai.” Isaiah winced at the nick name he had given him. “I’ll see myself out.”

He only made it as far as the hallway before Isaiah’s hand on his arm jerked him to a stop. Ethan turned to walk away. He got to the door before he felt a hand on his arm stopping him. He found himself turned, and pushed against the wall. Isaiah crowding close to him, so that his goatee brushed against his chin. Before Ethan could open his mouth to speak, Isaiah’s mouth crushed against his. His body stiffened, but hearing Isaiah growl, he tried to relax his body.

“Kiss me back.” Ethan heard the demand and frustration in Isaiah’s voice.

Blowing out a ragged breath, he kissed Isaiah back when their lips touched again. Isaiah’s assault on his lips was slow and sensual. As he let himself feel, he realized Isaiah’s lips were as soft as he thought they would be. He found himself melting against the other wolf, wanting more, and needing more. His hands had a mind of their own, wrapping themselves around Isaiah’s neck, fingers sinking into his hair. One of them moaned, but Ethan couldn’t tell which of them it was. Time seemed to stand still as they stood in the hallway pressed against each other, Ethan lost in pure bliss.

Finally, Isaiah pulled back his head. “While you’re with your other mate, think of that kiss. I promise it won’t be the same with her.” Walking back into the kitchen, Isaiah didn’t look back. Ethan stood staring after him stunned for a moment. He was tempted to raise his hand to his lips to savor the kiss. He shook his head to clear his mind before letting himself out to make his way home.

What the fuck is the matter with you? That was the million dollar question. Maybe he should have talked it over with Isaiah first. His choice effected both of them, but when his mother told him she was going to die, he figured he could give her the one thing she wanted most. A mated son, with kids of his own.

When he got home, Veronica was standing on his porch. She was a persistent thing, he had to give her that.

“Hey handsome, you finally made it home.” She stated when he walked up the steps and unlocked his door.

“What do you need Veronica?” He wasn’t in the mood for company at the moment.

Bating her eyelashes, Ethan saw the forced smile she plastered over her face. As if she couldn’t fathom anyone not falling all over themselves to be in her company. “I needed to talk to you about something. Can we go inside?” She asked sweetly.

Shaking his head, he stepped out of the way to let her inside. What did he have to lose? He already lost his mate tonight.

Review

5 star review from fellow author Lisa Oliver.
“This is a gorgeously sweet, hot and slightly unusual twist on the typical male wolf shifter mates story. The two characters are believable in their angst and when one makes a decision that will impact the other, then – well it’s time to take action. A great short read and recommended :)”
