Teaser Tuesday: Loving His Mercenary Unedited

Elliot Phillips groaned while squeezing his eyes shut tighter before opening them. He looked up at the dingy ceiling from his spot on the floor. It felt like there was a marching band in his head as his brain pulsed. Elliot blinked a few times trying to figure out why he was laying on the floor with a pressure on his chest that felt like someone was laying on him.

Closing his eyes again, Elliot thought back to the last thing he remembered. He and Laci were at the park for her sixth birthday party and he was on the phone with Christian wondering where he and Rick were. Laci had kept asking him if they could cut the cake. Elliot then remembered hearing Laci scream when he looked at her, Hector had been holding a gun to her head. He also remembered trying to stall until Christian and Rick made it to them. When he saw Kilian step out of the car, he heard police sirens, before Killian apologized, then there had been a blinding pain before everything went black.

Elliot’s eyes snapped open again, Laci.

“Daddy are you awake? I’m scared.”

Elliot breathed a sigh of relief when he realized it was Laci’s head laying on his chest.

“Yes, pumpkin I’m awake.”

Elliot groaned when he sat up after Laci lifted her head. He slowly turned his head checking their surroundings. They seemed to be in a basement, all the walls were made of concrete bricks. A stairwell was directly in front of them. Besides the two of them, there was nothing else in down there.

“Has anybody been down here since we got here?” Elliot asked turning to look back at Laci.

“Only two people. The bad guy who held the gun at my head and the man who got out of the car.” Laci answered. Daddy will Christian and Rick be coming to get us soon?”

“I don’t know sweetie.” Elliot answered, he believed they would be coming to get them, but if Killian hadn’t gone to the dark side, Elliot could get his help.

“Sweetie, I want you to over to the corner and close your eyes,” Elliot insisted when he heard footsteps above them.

“But…”

“No buts Laci, I need you to keep being strong for daddy. Go into the corner and don’t open your eyes until you feel it’s safe,” Elliot urged her.

He let out a sigh of relief when she stood and started to move.

“But how will I know?”

Elliot heard the fear in her voice, but he was helpless to do anything about it. “You’ll know baby.”

Simple Saturday: Update

Ok so it’s me again. I know, I am rather iffy when it comes to blog posts, but I have sworn to myself to change that. I have a reminder on my phone to tell me to make the blog post for the next day. I know that’s really sad, but I find it to be helpful these past two days.

What the heck am I up to? If you check the blog and look in the corner where the little progress bars are, you know that A Fighter’s Heart is steady climbing up there. Although I haven’t updated it recently. At the time of this post, AFH is at 45242 words. I have also joined a critiquing group with some wonderful people and the ones working on AFH have given me some invaluable feedback on the story. I have a feeling this will be my best book yet. So if all goes to plan, and sweet baby Jesus, I hope that they do, I should have it published by mid-July or sooner, but let’s cross our fingers for mid-July though.

What comes after that, Loving His Mercenary will be released in the summer time as well. Then comes the next story in the Red Moon Pack series. Hopefully by then I will know if I want to write it like Mated, or if they will be two stand-alones.

I may have not been active with the blog, but I swear I have been writing.

Until next time.

Loving His Mercenary Question

I am about to sit down and write the last book in my Mercenary in Love series, and I got to thinking. To all my fans of this series or to someone who just wants to put their input, if there was something you would like to see the characters do in this book what would it be?

Such as a certain scene with Killian and Elliot. The two main MC’s with the other characters in the series. A scene with just Laci or Laci with one or both main MC’s or her with the other characters.

Your idea just might end up in Loving His Mercenary.

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016

It is about that time. I’m sad to say 2015 just was not my year. Yes, I had my good moments, but I think the bad moments outshined the good ones. 2016 will be better (or I want a refund.)

So what will you see from me in 2016? Although  I hadn’t had as many releases last year, this year will be different. I will be working on last the book in the Mercenary in Love series, Loving His Mercenary. I know, I know, it’s a work in progress. I am hoping the beginning of Spring.

I am currently working on A Fighter’s Heart still, so with that I am hoping will be out mid to end of February.  Hopefully the real world won’t intrude on myself or my editor, fingers crossed. What you might not know is that it will be turning into a series with three books to it.

Conquered Mate will be in paper book, hopefully mid January. Followed by Cherished Mate. I am still working on the revisions. I don’t know if I want to add anther couple to it or give the couple their own short, short story. (I meant to put both shorts.) After that will be followed by Jeremy’s story and many more to come in that series.

Besides the main series I have out, there will be a few stand alones and hopefully the start of some new series.

This year I will try to do better with the social media, though I really don’t have the mind frame for it. Never know what to say or post in general. I’ll try harder though with at least one post a week, book related.

Here is to an awesome 2016!

I also have a new motto for myself, for those times that I feel discouraged.

I’m back!

Ok, so some people may have noticed that I have been MIA. I will start by saying that RL has been taking its toll on me. I’m talking about when you wake up and you are like today is going to be a good  day, I’m going to get this done, or today is the day it’s going to be perfect. I haven’t had a good day in a long time. It’s really sad. It got to the point where I literally didn’t have the energy to do anything. Worry and stress is a very bad combination.

Now it’s back to the regularly scheduled program. I’m done feeling sorry for myself, so I’ve been writing. What have I been writing you ask? Well Fated Mate and Destined Mate are finished, they are with my editor right now and I should have Fated Mate back really soon. Like I said before there will be major changes in those two books, but the story is somewhat the same. I am looking to release that one on August 10-20th. Don’t quote me on that, I have learned all to clearly how plans can change. I have finished the revisions for Conquered Mate, not too many changes, just need to type that up. I know I’m just going to add some scenes to Cherished Mate.

Also the title for Jack (Jake), I can’t remember his name and that is really bad, but Noah’s father and Shane’s story will be Unexpected Mate and I doubt it will be more than 10k words. Their book will basically be the set up for Jeremy’s story, which got the title Beloved Mate.

I am currently working on A Fighter’s Heart and I think it might be my first novel length book. Yay. After that I am going to hopefully start the next and final book in the Mercenary in Love series, Loving His Mercenary. Killian and Elliot’s story.

All I ask is to have some patience with me, I’m working on getting back on track. There are good things to come.

Thanks for all your support and love, until next time.

Teaser Thursday: Taming His Mercenary

“Fancy meeting you here.” Elliot said as he came to his table. “Mind if I join you?”

“No not at all.”

“So how’s your day going?” Elliot asked with a smile.

“It’s going; and yours?” Rick replied as he waved the waitress back over.

“It’s going. Have you talked to your best friend?”

Rick had hoped Elliot would have forgotten what he told him, but that was something kind of hard to forget.

“Yeah. He said he wanted to stay friends.”

“Ouch,” Elliot said with a chuckle.

“Tell me about it. Look, I don’t think we should go to dinner. I don’t want you to feel like I’m using you.”

“You can use me anytime you want.” Elliot said with a wink, then turned to the waitress to give her his order.

“No really-“

“I wasn’t kidding this morning when I told you I can be the guy to help you forget. What do you have to lose?”

He was right, Christian didn’t want him, and there was a man sitting in front of him who did. What did he have to lose?

“Okay, I’ll go.”

It wasn’t like Rick had been a monk, but he always compared the people he was with to Christian. He wasn’t doing that with Elliot, maybe if he succeeded in making him forget his love for Christian then they could be friends again.

“Do you have any plans for today?” Elliot asked after their food had been delivered.

“No. My boss gave me the day off.” Rick answered before he took a bite of his food.

“What is it you do?”

This was the tricky part. Did he tell Elliot now, and risk him walking away or later on down the line have Elliot try to get him to change his profession.

“I’m a mercenary.”

“Really. That’s not something you hear every day; interesting.” Elliot had a gleam in his eye as he spoke.

“I think so.”

“Hey, if you love what you do, keep doing it.” Elliot replied as he pushed his empty plate away.

Rick let out a sigh of relief. This might work. “What do you do for a living?”

“Nothing as interesting as you, that’s for sure. I’m a real estate agent.”

“I never would have guessed that.” Rick said with a chuckle.

“I can say the same for you. Well… maybe not. The bad ass look is good on you.”

“I won’t deny that I can handle myself.”

“I have to head out of here. I’m showing a house today. Text me later?” Elliot asked as he stood and placed some money on the table.

“You can count on it.”

Rick watched as Elliot left the diner. He was actually excited about his date tomorrow. Which was odd, because he never would have looked twice at anyone before. Now that he knew where he stood with Christian, there wasn’t anything holding him back. Except his pesky heart. Waving his hand to get the waitress’ attention, he paid the bill and he left for home. He didn’t need to spend the day away after all, and it was mainly thanks to Elliot.

4* Review: Freeing His Mercenary

Another Great Read in the Series
I have to start off by saying that if you haven’t read the first two books in this series you should do that before attempting to read this book. It begins where book 2 left off, and there is just too much information you would be missing to make this a decent read. That being said, this is another quickie read, than can be finished an a pretty short amount of time. This book was a bit more like the first in the pace department, the story itself is obviously supposed to be fast paced with action, but it seems a bit too rushed. Book two had slowed things down a bit and it made for a better read. That bring said the story once again is really good. In this story Rick has amnesia, and forgets Christian. Then Christian goes and does something that only serves to complicate matters a whole lot more! This one really pulls at your heart strings. This book, as the last one does, ends on a cliffhanger and I can only hope that book number four isn’t far behind. I’m hoping that it also gets back to the style of book two where the action is fast paced, but the while story itself doesn’t seem to be too rushed.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Teaser Thursday: Freeing His Mercenary

“Do you think Christian would let me get another car?” Elliot asked Rick as he drove them back towards the house.

It rankled that he needed to ask permission to do something as simple as buying a car. He was a grown man for goodness sake. He’d been taking care of himself for over a decade now.

“I don’t see why not, it’s practical. You and Laci need to be able to get around as well. That’s kind of hard to do with one vehicle.” Rick replied.

“I just hope Christian is in a practical mood.” Elliot muttered to himself.

They sat in silence for the rest of the ride home. Elliot noticed that Rick was quieter on the days he went for the hypnosis treatments. Elliot knew that the sessions weren’t going as well as they’d hoped He wanted Rick get his memories back. Although he knew that Rick was sure to fall back in love with Christian again, parts of his heart were still attracted to both men and he secretly wished that one of them would chose him. How fucked up is that?

Pulling into the driveway, Elliot placed the car in park. He walked around the car and helped Rick get out. As he opened the front door and headed for the sofa with Rick he overheard Christian and Laci talking in the kitchen.

“Daddy’s here. You can ask him now.” Laci said excitedly.

“Come on Sunshine, you have to give me a few seconds to think about what I’m going to say.” Christian told her. Elliot had a strong suspicion he already knew what his daughter had talked Christian into asking him.

“Hey Rick. How was your appointment?’ Christian asked as he walked into the living room with Laci at his heels.

“Same as always. A whole lot of nothing. I’m going to go lay down for a while. Even though it doesn’t seem be working, it still makes my brain tired.” Elliot watched as Rick grabbed the crutch that was leaning against the arm of the sofa and struggled to his feet. He started to take a step towards Rick, but paused when he saw Christian shaking his head no. Sighing, he sat down in the spot Rick had just vacated instead.

“Hey baby girl. Did you have fun coloring with Christian?” Elliot asked as Laci came sat down next to him.

“Yes, but Christian colored one of the dresses wrong. He knows that next time they need to be purple.” Laci stated seriously. “He also has something to ask you.” She added with a huge grin on her face.

“I was informed that a puppy would go great with lunch.”

“Oh, really?” Elliot asked with a raised eyebrow. He looked down at Laci who was nodding her head.

“Yes, so I told her I would ask you about it.” Christian stated as he came to stand right behind him. “A puppy is a lot of responsibility for a little girl, Sunshine. You’ll have to have your daddy’s help.”

Elliot found himself sucking in his breath. Hot damn. Christian had to see the effect he was having on his body. He had spent many nights dreaming about a repeat performance of their first night at the house, but had been keeping his distance out of respect for Christian’s wishes. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Elliot looked back at his daughter.

“Laci, you know a puppy is a lot of work, right?”

“I know it is daddy, but I’m a big girl. I’ll take good care of it.”

“How about we discuss it more after you turn six?”

“Six?” Laci asked, wrinkling her forehead.

“Yes, six. You have to show me that you are responsible by picking up your things without being asked, getting ready for bed on time, and keeping your room clean.” Elliot stated. Laci already did those things most of the time, but he had to make her work for it.

“I can do that.” Laci replied before running to her room.

“I leave you here for an hour unsupervised and I come back to discover you’ve been making bargains with my five year old.” Elliot stated, looking Christian in the eyes for the first time in days.

“What can I say?” He asked with a shrug of his shoulder. “She has me wrapped around her little finger.”

Elliot chuckled. Of the three men, Laci always went to Christian first when she wanted something.

“I want to get a car.” He blurted out with absolutely no finesse. Christian stood there for a moment, thinking quietly before he spoke.

“Sure, you can get a car.”

“Look, the reason I want one is that it would be easier for us to have… wait, did you just say yes?” Elliot gaped at Christian. He had been prepared to list all of the reasons why he thought it would be a good idea for him to have his own car.

“Yep. Like you were saying, it would be easier if we had two vehicles, especially since you need to do more driving with Laci.”

“Okay. I mean, that’s good. I’ll get it taken care of then.” Elliot really didn’t know what to say.

“With everything that’s going on I know it isn’t safe for me to access my bank accounts. Since you’re the head man in charge I wanted to run it by you before I decided what to do next.”

“You get started looking for something reliable that isn’t going to draw a lot of attention. Let me know how much it is and I’ll get Chase to set you up with an account. I’m only in charge of the safety of everyone in this house. He handles all the cash.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem.”

Elliot sat there for a moment longer before standing to go to the kitchen. Just when he thought that he finally had Christian all figured out the man would turn around and do something that completely surprised him.
