A Fighter’s Heart Blog Story

This would take place right before Dom’s charity match with Zachery.

“Dom, we have thirty minutes to get out the door and to the doctor’s office,” Riley called out as he grabbed Emilia to take her to the truck.

“Adba da bebe.” Emilia smiled at Riley.

“I’m here.”

Riley sucked in a sharp breath at the sound of Dom’s voice directly behind him.

“Dang it, Dominic,” Riley growled turning to glare at Dom. “How many times do I need to tell you not to sneak up on me?”

“And how many time do I need to tell you, you shouldn’t say my full name with ill intent?” Dom said with a grin.

“Oh bite me.”

“Dada, dada,” Emilia chanted as she reached for Dom.

“Hey, beautiful girl. You ready to go to the big bad doctor?” Dom asked as he bounced Emilia in the air causing her to laugh in joy.

“Oh, hush. Going to the doctor is not that bad.”

“What if she needs to get s-h-o-t?” Dom whispered.

“Dom, she can’t spell. You can say the word.” Riley laughed.

“Still, you’re going to be the one to hold her if she does have to get shots.” Dom shuddered as he said the last word.

“You aren’t seriously afraid of needles? You get punched in the face for a living.”

“There is a big difference between taking a hit to the body, and getting stabbed with a pointy object,” Dom declared.

“Wow. Okay, you big baby let’s go.” Riley smiled to himself at the glare Dom threw him before turning to walk out to his truck.

Riley got into the passenger seat as Dom put Emilia into her car seat before getting in the driver seat.

“Are the guys coming over this weekend?” Riley asked Dom when he passed through the gate.

“I think so, but we both know Xavier and Zach will pop up at any given moment.”

Riley chuckled because Dom was right. They sat in silence, apart from when Riley hummed along to the songs that came on the radio. Soon they were pulling into the parking lot of the doctor’s office.

Riley took Emilia into the waiting room while Dom checked her in. Riley sighed in relief when there was only another man and woman sitting there. He hoped that meant they wouldn’t have a long wait to get in to see the doctor. Riley took Emilia from her stroller and was bouncing her on his knee when a deep voice spoke behind him.

“Dom?”

Riley looked up to find his lover walking toward them. The smile on his face slipping.

***

Dom groaned when he spotted Roy sitting behind Riley. With how happy he was with Riley, and before then, Dom had forgotten to give his old lover a call to let him know everything had worked out for him.

Dom’s eyes moved from Roy to Riley. Riley had raised an eyebrow at the stunned look; Dom was sure he was sporting. Dom looked back at Roy who had gotten close to them.

“So what brings you here sexy?” Roy asked with a hint of lust in his voice.

Dom held in another groan as he caught the glare Riley shot his way. “I brought my daughter in for a checkup.”

“Nice,” Roy stated with a nod of his head. “I see you got everything settled. I’m a little hurt; I thought I would have gotten a phone call by now.”

“Oh really?” Riley questioned.

Roy must not have heard him or decided to ignore him because he continued to talk. “Where is she?”

“Yes, Dominic, where is she?” Riley growled.

Oh, fucking hell.

“Oh.” Roy startled, looking down at Riley before his eyes moved to Emilia.

“She’s cute. I hadn’t gotten a good look at her that night she was dropped off.”

“Thanks.” Dom cleared his throat. “This is my partner Riley.”

“Oh … oh.”

“I would say it’s a pleasure, but I’m on the fence about that,” Riley greeted with a fake smile.

Roy looked shocked for a moment before he spoke. “I don’t poach on anybody’s man. A phone call would have been great, but I get it,” Roy stated before looking back at Dom. “It was great seeing you. I’m glad you have somebody.”

“Thanks, Roy.”

Riley huffed as the other man moved back to his seat. Dom sat next to Riley, who had turned to look the other way. “Come on Ry, that was in the past.”

Riley turned back to glare at Dom. “I know that, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

Dom understood that. He hadn’t like Gabriel, and that was only one past lover. Dom knew he wouldn’t like anybody that had been intimate with his partner.

“How about I make it up to you tonight?”

Before Riley could answer a nurse called out, “Emilia Bennett?”

“I’ll hold you to that,” Riley whispered as he walked pass Dom, pushing Emilia’s stroller.

With a lecherous grin, Dom followed Riley. He knew of the perfect way for his lover to know that he was the only one for him.

Teaser Thursday: Mated

“Thank you for coming on such short notice,” Noah greeted his father and the Elders when they arrived.

“Not a problem. We were already planning to stop by to make sure everything is going as planned with Rachel,” Zeke answered for the group.

Noah followed his guests into the living room, taking a seat next to Mitchell on the sofa. Rachel had joined them as well, and once everyone was seated he prepared himself for all hell to break loose.

“I wanted everyone to meet as soon as possible to announce that I won’t be mating Rachel as originally planned. Rachel, you are a lovely woman and my decision doesn’t reflect negatively on you in any way,” Noah turned towards her with an apologetic smile.

“You agreed to this Noah, you can’t back out now,” Zeke growled.

“Watch it old man. I’m still Alpha of this pack,” Noah growled harshly, and Zeke had the decency to look sheepish. “I will not be mating Rachel because last night I claimed my true mate, her brother Mitchell.”

The Elders all began shouting at once. Their horrified and bigoted comments enough to tempt Noah to violence if they didn’t shut the hell up soon. To his credit, Noah’s father, hadn’t said anything yet, and Rachel sat in stunned silence while Mitchell’s steadying presence offered support.

“Enough,” Noah snapped. “I will address your concerns one at a time.”

“You can’t possible mate him, it’s unheard of.” Unsurprisingly, Zeke was the first to speak.

“It may be unheard of but let me assure you that it is very possible because we are already mated. Has your eyesight gone bad? You can clearly see my mating mark on Mitchell’s skin.”

“What about uniting the packs? If you aren’t going to mate Rachel it’s obvious you don’t have the best interest of the pack in mind.”

“That won’t be a problem, the packs can still unite. It must have escaped your notice that Mitchell and Rachel are siblings. I’m not answering any more question, we are going around in circles. Mitchell is my mate. End of story.” Noah was having a hard time controlling his wolf. It wanted to tear the Elders to shreds for doubting his mate.

“We will see how long you remain Alpha,” Zeke hissed.

The hairs on the back of Noah’s neck stood up. “Was that a threat, Elder? Let me assure you that I am fully capable of defending my status as Alpha and protecting my mate.” The power coming off Noah crackled in the air, demanding they turn their heads and submit to him. “I take care of my pack. I put their needs above my own. I was even willing to attempt to mate a female for them. You are the ones who are betraying the pack. Alphas are always stronger with their fated mates at their side. You will not tell me that I can’t mate Mitchell Goddamn it. He is my mate.” Noah felt his skin crawl as his wolf tried to come forward to eliminate the threat to his mate.

“Let’s take five minutes to cool off before something happens we’ll all regret,” Mitchell said as he stood and began to pull Noah towards the kitchen. His mate was seconds away from shifting. Before the kitchen door had time to swing close, Mitchell spun around and trapped Noah with an all-consuming kiss; the kind that makes you think of nothing else. After a couple of minutes, Mitchell pulled his mouth away. One minute Noah was about to kill someone and the next all he wanted was to find a bedroom and take his mate.

“Better?” Mitchell asked, his voice husky from their kiss.

“Hell yeah, let’s do that again.” Mitchell chuckled and turned to lead Noah back into the living room. “That’s not fair. First you get me all hot and bothered and then you make me go back to a room where I want to strangle half the occupants.”

“Think of it this way. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go to bed.”

Noah followed Mitchell back into the living room. As far as he was concerned, this meeting was already over. The only question left to answer was if there would be bloodshed or not.

“I have a suggestion,” Zeke announced as soon as they were seated again.

Noah raised an eyebrow. He didn’t like the tone of Zeke’s voice, the man up to something. “I’m listening.”

“The obvious solution is to hold an Alpha challenge.”

“What!” Mitchell’s efforts to calm Noah shattered.

“Noah, just hear them out,” Mitchell whispered forcefully into his ear. Since Noah wanted heads to roll, he would have to be the one to keep the peace.

“We will select three wolves who we feel are better suited to the position of Alpha then you are to challenge them in the ring. Whoever wins will then fight your brothers Nathan and Nicholas. If the contender beats all three of you, then your family will no longer be the Alpha family, and he will be Alpha,” Zeke continued.

Noah wanted to gut the pompous ass. He watched as his father’s body stiffened and then relaxed. His father knew none of the challengers would defeat Noah. There was no reason to worry about his younger sons.

“All right. Choose who you want on these conditions. Once I beat the wolves you choose you will leave us the hell alone. From this point forward, anyone who doesn’t keep their mouths shut about my leadership, my mate, or any other same sex matings that occur, will have to find another fucking pack.” Noah would rather gut them then make a deal, but Mitchell obviously wanted to do things the old-fashioned way so no one would ever challenge them again.

“Deal.”

Once they had selected a date for the Alpha challenge, the Elders left. Noah, Mitchell, Rachel and his dad were the only ones who remained. Rachel and his dad had been quiet throughout the entire meeting and Noah turned to Rachel now. “I am sorry things had to work out this way. I had intended to follow through with my promise to mating with you, and your brother had decided to leave, but I couldn’t let him go.”

“You have nothing to apologize for. I understand completely.”

Rachel looked disappointed but not terribly hurt and Noah was relieved. It wasn’t her fault and he didn’t want to cause her any pain. “You can stay as long as you like.”

“Thank you, I’m very happy for the two of you and will take you up on that offer. Unless you had something else to discuss, it’s been an eventful morning and I’d like to go to my bedroom and rest for a while.”

“No, nothing else, thank goodness.”

Rachel smiled at them pleasantly before headed to her room. Now the only person left to deal with was his father.

“Dad—”

“I’m proud of you son. You stood up for your mate and what you believed in.”

“You’re not upset?”

“No, son. I want you to be happy, and it’s obvious that this young man does that for you.” To say Noah was stunned would be an understatement. He’d thought that his father agreed with the Elders’ plan to arrange his mating. “Yes he does Dad, more than you know. Thank you for understanding.” Noah was exhausted, and it wasn’t even ten in the morning.

Teaser Thursday: Taming His Mercenary

They entered the kitchen to make lunch together and talked easily the entire time. Even though they were already best friends, they discovered that things felt different now that they were in a relationship. They confided intimate details of their lives that they had never shared before.

They were sitting together on the couch after lunch when the security strobe lights activated unexpectedly. Who the hell was trying to break in? Rick jumped up from the couch and ran to the war room with Christian following closely behind. Moving to the wall, Rick flipped a switch to raise the map board and uncover the surveillance screens. Three men were moving in from the east perimeter while another three were approaching from the west. Fuck, who were these guys?

“We’ve got a situation at the house.” Rick glanced towards Christian as he talked on the phone. Chase and Cameron had gone out for lunch, and Killian had yet to arrive home after finishing at the police station.

“According to the surveillance feed we have six unidentified men currently breaching the perimeter.” Christian paused to listen and then nodded his head. “All right, we’ll see you soon.”

“What did Chase have to say?” Rick asked, as he moved towards the wall locker that secured their bigger guns.

“He said to keep them at bay, but to try not to kill anyone until he arrives,” Christian stated as he picked up his sniper rifle. “I’m going to set up on the balcony in my room and try to force them to take cover, which should buy us enough time for Chase and the others to arrive.”

Rick nodded his head, pulling out his own sniper rifle. Sliding a comms unit across the table for Christian, he placed a second unit in his ear. Rick positioned himself on the third floor, opposite of Christian, to keep his eyes on the three men approaching from the west.

“I’m situated in my room; my guys are still moving towards the house. I’m going to fire some warning shots.” Christian whispered into Rick’s ear through the comms unit.

“Roger that.”

Rick slid his window open and placed the barrel of his rifle on the sill. He heard shots coming from Christian’s side of the house and realized that Christian must have used his silencer because the shots he was hearing were obviously return fire. Lining up his own shot, Rick aimed for the dirt in front of the intruders. They reacted by scrambling to find cover in the opened field. He would have laughed if the situation wasn’t so serious.

Rick ducked his head down as the other men returned fire. Fuck, they hadn’t bothered with silencers. Who the hell had sent them? The only person who came to mind was Logan.

“You okay?” Rick breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Christian in his ear again.

They were both being targeted with return fire.

“I’m good. How about you?”

“I’m good; motherfuckers shot out my window though,” Christian grumbled. “I hear a car pulling up, it’s probably Chase.”

“Okay, let me know what’s happening,” Rick stated as he kept an eye on the men outside.

Teaser Thursday: His Mercenary

“Chase, you have a visitor.” Rick stated as he entered the war room.

“Who the hell is knocking on our door at six o’clock in the morning?” Chase asked. Opening the door, his eyes were suddenly fixed on Cameron, and if Rick answered, Chase didn’t hear him.

“Do you know what time it is? I could have been sleeping.”

“Chase, cut the crap. We both know you weren’t sleeping. I know you’re pissed at me for last night, but there is nothing I can do about it now.”

“There’s nothing you can do, but apologizing for shutting us out wouldn’t hurt. We worked our asses off finding Angelo and tying him to human trafficking. The reward for our efforts is that he fucking escapes.” Chase seethed.

He told himself the night before he would be civil to Cameron once he saw him again even though Cameron pushed all his buttons. Chase was about to say something when Cameron kissed him.

All the fight went out of his body as he fell into the kiss, and damn, Cameron could kiss. Not to be outdone, Chase took control of the kiss, mastering Cameron’s mouth. His lips felt as soft as Chase thought they would. When Cameron moaned into the kiss Chase pulled away, he opened his eyes to see Cameron’s mouth trying to follow his.

“Would you like to come in and talk?” Chase asked. He knew there was a cocky grin on his face and that Cameron hadn’t expected Chase to take over the kiss.

“Yeah, I think we should do that.” Cameron replied in a slightly dazed tone.

Walking back into the house, he discovered they had an audience.

“I don’t want to hear a thing.” Chase growled walking past his team.

Chase led Cameron to the back, where he took his seat at the head of the war room’s table. His eyes were on Cameron as he took the seat next to him. Cameron eyed the papers and photo’s scattered on top of the table. Obviously they weren’t going to give up trying to find Angelo anytime soon.

“Agent Allen has come to talk to us, despite the fact that he told us if the FBI needed our help, they would call.” Chase announced once everyone entered the room, taking their seats.

“I only said that because you looked like you were about to shoot someone.” Cameron defended himself.

“Believe me, I was. Since you’re here now, a few introductions are in order. To your right is Killian Brady and next to him is Christian Storm. On the other side of me is Rick North.” Cameron nodded his head to everyone in turn. “Guys, this is Special Agent Cameron Allen.”

“Now that we all know each other let’s get down to business. Last night we had a chance to secure Angelo Marini, but he got away.” Chase said the last part while shooting Cameron, a pointed look. “Here’s what we are going to do. Christian, I want you to go look around the auto shop he owns in town and see if you can find out where he’s hiding. Rick and Killian, I want you to go to the homes of the three women that were taken from here and make sure they’re okay. Angelo took them for a reason; he might try to go after them again. I’m going to go and talk to my informant at Angelo’s favorite restaurant. A man has to eat sometime.”

“What about me?” Cameron asked once the other men had filed out of the room.

“You can go back to your hotel room, and if we need your help, I’ll give you a call.” Chase stated as he moved towards the door.

“Look, I apologize. I was just trying to keep the bloodshed to a minimum.” Cameron grabbed Chase’s arm, to keep him from leaving the room.

“I understand why you said it, Cameron.” Chase said without turning around.

“I’ll come with you.”

“No.” Chase couldn’t have Cameron with him. He knew he’d spend more time thinking about fucking him than doing his job.

“Why the hell not?” Cameron asked, obviously outraged at being turned down flat.

“Because you’re a distraction I don’t need right now.”

Teaser Thursday: Taming His Mercenary

“Fancy meeting you here.” Elliot said as he came to his table. “Mind if I join you?”

“No not at all.”

“So how’s your day going?” Elliot asked with a smile.

“It’s going; and yours?” Rick replied as he waved the waitress back over.

“It’s going. Have you talked to your best friend?”

Rick had hoped Elliot would have forgotten what he told him, but that was something kind of hard to forget.

“Yeah. He said he wanted to stay friends.”

“Ouch,” Elliot said with a chuckle.

“Tell me about it. Look, I don’t think we should go to dinner. I don’t want you to feel like I’m using you.”

“You can use me anytime you want.” Elliot said with a wink, then turned to the waitress to give her his order.

“No really-“

“I wasn’t kidding this morning when I told you I can be the guy to help you forget. What do you have to lose?”

He was right, Christian didn’t want him, and there was a man sitting in front of him who did. What did he have to lose?

“Okay, I’ll go.”

It wasn’t like Rick had been a monk, but he always compared the people he was with to Christian. He wasn’t doing that with Elliot, maybe if he succeeded in making him forget his love for Christian then they could be friends again.

“Do you have any plans for today?” Elliot asked after their food had been delivered.

“No. My boss gave me the day off.” Rick answered before he took a bite of his food.

“What is it you do?”

This was the tricky part. Did he tell Elliot now, and risk him walking away or later on down the line have Elliot try to get him to change his profession.

“I’m a mercenary.”

“Really. That’s not something you hear every day; interesting.” Elliot had a gleam in his eye as he spoke.

“I think so.”

“Hey, if you love what you do, keep doing it.” Elliot replied as he pushed his empty plate away.

Rick let out a sigh of relief. This might work. “What do you do for a living?”

“Nothing as interesting as you, that’s for sure. I’m a real estate agent.”

“I never would have guessed that.” Rick said with a chuckle.

“I can say the same for you. Well… maybe not. The bad ass look is good on you.”

“I won’t deny that I can handle myself.”

“I have to head out of here. I’m showing a house today. Text me later?” Elliot asked as he stood and placed some money on the table.

“You can count on it.”

Rick watched as Elliot left the diner. He was actually excited about his date tomorrow. Which was odd, because he never would have looked twice at anyone before. Now that he knew where he stood with Christian, there wasn’t anything holding him back. Except his pesky heart. Waving his hand to get the waitress’ attention, he paid the bill and he left for home. He didn’t need to spend the day away after all, and it was mainly thanks to Elliot.

Teaser Thursday: Freeing His Mercenary

“Do you think Christian would let me get another car?” Elliot asked Rick as he drove them back towards the house.

It rankled that he needed to ask permission to do something as simple as buying a car. He was a grown man for goodness sake. He’d been taking care of himself for over a decade now.

“I don’t see why not, it’s practical. You and Laci need to be able to get around as well. That’s kind of hard to do with one vehicle.” Rick replied.

“I just hope Christian is in a practical mood.” Elliot muttered to himself.

They sat in silence for the rest of the ride home. Elliot noticed that Rick was quieter on the days he went for the hypnosis treatments. Elliot knew that the sessions weren’t going as well as they’d hoped He wanted Rick get his memories back. Although he knew that Rick was sure to fall back in love with Christian again, parts of his heart were still attracted to both men and he secretly wished that one of them would chose him. How fucked up is that?

Pulling into the driveway, Elliot placed the car in park. He walked around the car and helped Rick get out. As he opened the front door and headed for the sofa with Rick he overheard Christian and Laci talking in the kitchen.

“Daddy’s here. You can ask him now.” Laci said excitedly.

“Come on Sunshine, you have to give me a few seconds to think about what I’m going to say.” Christian told her. Elliot had a strong suspicion he already knew what his daughter had talked Christian into asking him.

“Hey Rick. How was your appointment?’ Christian asked as he walked into the living room with Laci at his heels.

“Same as always. A whole lot of nothing. I’m going to go lay down for a while. Even though it doesn’t seem be working, it still makes my brain tired.” Elliot watched as Rick grabbed the crutch that was leaning against the arm of the sofa and struggled to his feet. He started to take a step towards Rick, but paused when he saw Christian shaking his head no. Sighing, he sat down in the spot Rick had just vacated instead.

“Hey baby girl. Did you have fun coloring with Christian?” Elliot asked as Laci came sat down next to him.

“Yes, but Christian colored one of the dresses wrong. He knows that next time they need to be purple.” Laci stated seriously. “He also has something to ask you.” She added with a huge grin on her face.

“I was informed that a puppy would go great with lunch.”

“Oh, really?” Elliot asked with a raised eyebrow. He looked down at Laci who was nodding her head.

“Yes, so I told her I would ask you about it.” Christian stated as he came to stand right behind him. “A puppy is a lot of responsibility for a little girl, Sunshine. You’ll have to have your daddy’s help.”

Elliot found himself sucking in his breath. Hot damn. Christian had to see the effect he was having on his body. He had spent many nights dreaming about a repeat performance of their first night at the house, but had been keeping his distance out of respect for Christian’s wishes. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Elliot looked back at his daughter.

“Laci, you know a puppy is a lot of work, right?”

“I know it is daddy, but I’m a big girl. I’ll take good care of it.”

“How about we discuss it more after you turn six?”

“Six?” Laci asked, wrinkling her forehead.

“Yes, six. You have to show me that you are responsible by picking up your things without being asked, getting ready for bed on time, and keeping your room clean.” Elliot stated. Laci already did those things most of the time, but he had to make her work for it.

“I can do that.” Laci replied before running to her room.

“I leave you here for an hour unsupervised and I come back to discover you’ve been making bargains with my five year old.” Elliot stated, looking Christian in the eyes for the first time in days.

“What can I say?” He asked with a shrug of his shoulder. “She has me wrapped around her little finger.”

Elliot chuckled. Of the three men, Laci always went to Christian first when she wanted something.

“I want to get a car.” He blurted out with absolutely no finesse. Christian stood there for a moment, thinking quietly before he spoke.

“Sure, you can get a car.”

“Look, the reason I want one is that it would be easier for us to have… wait, did you just say yes?” Elliot gaped at Christian. He had been prepared to list all of the reasons why he thought it would be a good idea for him to have his own car.

“Yep. Like you were saying, it would be easier if we had two vehicles, especially since you need to do more driving with Laci.”

“Okay. I mean, that’s good. I’ll get it taken care of then.” Elliot really didn’t know what to say.

“With everything that’s going on I know it isn’t safe for me to access my bank accounts. Since you’re the head man in charge I wanted to run it by you before I decided what to do next.”

“You get started looking for something reliable that isn’t going to draw a lot of attention. Let me know how much it is and I’ll get Chase to set you up with an account. I’m only in charge of the safety of everyone in this house. He handles all the cash.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem.”

Elliot sat there for a moment longer before standing to go to the kitchen. Just when he thought that he finally had Christian all figured out the man would turn around and do something that completely surprised him.
